Fall asleep to the sound of the sea and wake up to panoramic views of Maine's premier oceanside oasis

The Monhegan House offers 28 bright, comfortable rooms on four floors with beautiful views of the ocean, the lighthouse and meadow, or both. We offer both single and double, as well as family, rooms that are appointed with period furniture and plush, comfortable bedding.

"Cannot speak highly enough of this inn. Clean as a whistle (including shared toilet rooms and showers). And most of all-so much fun! There's a jovial spirit amongst the owners and employees. A rocking chair filled porch, games to be played, a library, and coffee and tea always available."

"Our experience on the island would not have been the same if we stayed anywhere else."

Melanie, the Innkeeper, puts a lot of thought into everything from the experience to the meals to the decor. Her homemade granola was so good I wanted to just eat an entire plate of that. And the breakfasts are varied, interesting and full. She makes sure you are well fed with multiple courses! She is a very friendly, positive, fun person that obviously loves what she does.

Breakfast, included in your room rate, will feature favorites like house made pecan-coconut granola, egg souffles, potato galettes,  fresh-from-the-oven goodies - and maybe even a surprise!

Social lobby

The spacious, comfortable lobby with the old stone fireplace and a baby grand piano invites guests to make new acquaintances and renew old ones.

The Novelty

Look out for the BRAND NEW Novelty this summer!  Wine and Beer is back!  And with charcuterie boards, a soup station, freshly made unique salads, and homemade breads, the Nov is your One Stop Picnic Shop!    But don't worry - we haven't forgotten the pizza, and ice cream too!

Experience life off of the mainland.

Maine's Monhegan Island, 10 miles out to sea, is one and one-half miles long and one-half mile wide, covering about 700 acres. It is an island unique in its geographical diversity.
The eastern side of Monhegan has high cliffs that offer the visitor breathtaking views of sea and surf. The central part of the island provides miles of well-cared-for trails including Cathedral Woods, a must-see for all visitors. From the western, or village side of Monhegan, one can see a beautiful harbor, nearby Manana Island or one of Monhegan's famous sunsets while relaxing on Swim Beach.
