A food-focused historic inn, 12 miles off Midcoast Maine

This is my fourth time staying at The Monhegan House and I highly recommend staying here when visiting Monhegan Island. The place is wonderful, everything is just right. Amazingly clean, the staff is great. Dan, John and Natasha do a wonderful job in the dining room and Mike the chef does a really great job. The proprietors Holden and Sue do a great job. You will be in for a treat if you stay here in my opinion.

Fresh seafood very well prepared and presented. Very ample portions. Glad we went as it was the best meal of our travels. Bouillabaisse was unconventionally good with great hunks of fish. Scallop dinner fresh and not over cooked.

Very accommodating, relaxing place to stay! Beautiful views from our room. I thought it would be awkward to not have our own bathroom, but the availability and cleanliness of the facilities were great.

Fantastic spot with wonderful proprietors, Holen and Sue. The food is excellent, the staff is wonderful and the rooms are comfortable. The place is neat as a pin and comfortable as can be. I have stayed there three times and each time has been a perfect experience. As far as I am concerned there is nothing that could make the place any finer. A real gem.

This is a different kind of experience. Get away from it all at Monhegan House. Helpful staff, quiet, great breakfast. I can't wait to go back. A step back in time and a great way to unplug (although the free wifi was super fast!)

We had a lovely stay at Monhegan House while enjoying a weekend on Monhegan. Clean, comfortable, simply appointed room with excellent mattress and bedding. Love how they transported our luggage to and from the ferry. And a delicious breakfast was included in the room rate. We will stay here again on our next visit to Monhegan.

I can't say enough about the comfort, cleanliness, hospitality of this lodging. And the food at breakfast was done with care. Service oriented with an aim to please in laid back fashion, Hike, take in local flavor by just sitting on the porch with a bottle of wine you bring from home or purchase at local store

Monhegan Island is a great place to chill out for a few days away from the hustle and bustle of normal society, and the Monhegan House is a friendly place to say. While the bathroom facilities are not in-room, the general facilities are well maintained, and the hotel is spotless and well-organized. You do need to walk from the ferry dock, but your bag will be trucked up for you and waiting in the room, and it is not a very long walk

This place is so nice that I didn’t want to write a review because I want to keep it a secret. But after seeing a recent negative one, I felt like I should. I adore this place. My fiancé and I just stayed here for 4 days and I will think about it for the rest of my life. The staff was lovely. The inn keepers were kind and fostered a sense of community (even if we were only here for a few days). At night, you could fall asleep to the sound of the waves and enjoy the almost complete darkness of the town. It was like some fairy tale dream. I am usually afraid of shared bathrooms/ showers but these were very clean and setup for maximum privacy. The bed was comfortable and the blankets were nice. And lastly, the food was amazing. Like we were so impressed with every dinner we had. Breakfast was straight forward and the coffee was good. I can’t wait to come back.
