Reservations & Payments
- A 50% deposit is required at booking, with the remaining balance charged 7 days before arrival.
- We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
- To pay by check, please contact us directly.
- Posted rates do not include Maine Lodging Tax (currently 9%).
Cancellation Policy
- 30+ days before arrival – Full refund.
- 8–30 days before arrival – Deposit is forfeited but credited for a future stay.
- 7 days or less – No refund.
- Trap Day (Sept 30–Oct 2) Policy: Before August 1 – Deposit forfeited but credited for a future stay. After August 1 – No refund.
- Group bookings and room blocks have separate cancellation policies.
- Travel insurance is recommended for large reservations.
Check-In & Check-Out
- Check-in is at 3 PM (earlier if possible).
- Check-out is at 10 AM – Bags can be stored and delivered to the dock for your ferry.
- Upon arrival, our team will transport your luggage from the dock to the inn—just tag it with your name and "MOHO."
- If arriving after 5 PM, notify the front desk for after-hours check-in arrangements.
Luggage & Packing
- The inn is multi-story with no elevator, so pack light.
- No single piece of luggage should exceed 40 pounds.
- Clearly label your bags for smooth transport.
- The Monhegan House is not responsible for untagged or misplaced luggage.
Rooms & Quiet Hours
- Most rooms do not have private bathrooms—shared individual bathrooms and showers are available on the first and second floors.
- Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 7 AM to ensure a restful night for everyone.
- Room keys must be returned at check-out; lost keys incur a $50 replacement fee.
Dining & Beverages
- Complimentary three-course breakfast is served from 8–9:30 AM daily.
- Coffee and morning beverages are available in the lobby starting at 6:30 AM.
- Dinner is available for separate purchase at the hotel.
- The Novelty offers pizza, ice cream, drinks, beer, and wine.
- Guests may charge dining and Novelty purchases to their room.
- Alcohol: Guests may bring their own liquor, as Monhegan does not sell hard alcohol. Beer and wine are available for purchase in the lobby and at The Novelty.
- A nightly mocktail happy hour is served in the lobby.
Pet Policy
- Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our three first-floor suites.
- A $100 flat fee covers a Bark Bag of goodies, a loaner dog bed, and an after-visit deep clean.
- Dogs must stay on the lawn, use their suite's private entrance, and be picked up after (Sani-stations provided).
Safety & Smoking
- Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on the property.
- Due to our 150-year-old wooden building, violators will be evicted and fined $1,000.
- Artists using paint thinners or hazardous materials must take them off the island upon departure. Used rags cannot be disposed of on the property due to fire risk.
Miscellaneous
- An ATM is available in The Novelty.
- Guests may use the lobby, porch, and grounds after check-out until departure.
